BIO
Sasha Iman Douglas-Nares works using textiles, found clothing, photography, and writing and is interested in unearthing covert meanings within societal norms through her work. Sasha practiced photography from childhood into adulthood, and within the transition to textiles, she carries both a relationship to photography and the authenticity of childhood, into her new explorations.
Play and intuition thus drive Sasha’s focus on textile texture and surface interventions, transforming the material to express other meanings.
Through material and research investigations, she explores underlying paradigms which fuel culture from its underbelly. Sexuality and trauma are two important focuses for Sasha, and the expression of which are teased out through the process.
