BIO
Babette Semmer (b. 1989, London) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and was awarded the “Meisterschüler” title in 2018 by Prof. Amy Sillman at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Currently she is the recipient of the Visual Arts Work Stipend of the Berlin Senate. In 2022 she participated in the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt. Her work has been exhibited at the Bonner Kunstverein, Spoiler Aktionsraum and Setareh Galerie in Berlin amongst other venues.

The figures in these drawings are set in domestic spaces and engaged in activities such as cutting onions, eating a hamburgers or crying over a letter.. The drama is delivered by their distant, moody expressions, the mysterious symbolism of the objects and poses they hold and the artificial, heightened sense of color and light around them.
